France won 4-1 after scoring four goals in the final 13 minutes of the match at the Stade de France on Monday, 5 October 2026. With this result, Zinedine Zidane extended his unbeaten run as head coach.
Michael Olise played a decisive role after coming off the bench, setting up Rayan Cherki’s goal before scoring twice himself. Désiré Doué had started the comeback with France’s equaliser and provided the assists for both of Olise’s late finishes.
The result leaves France top of Group A1 with 10 points from four matches, while Belgium sit third on six points.
Lukebakio Gives Belgium the Lead
Belgium opened the scoring through Dodi Lukebakio following an outstanding pass from Roméo Lavia.
Lavia’s 60-yard through ball released Lukebakio, who ran through and finished past Guillaume Restes, making his debut in the France goal.
That breakthrough gave Mark van Bommel’s side the advantage, but France continued to push for a response. Belgium goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt, also making his international debut, was eventually beaten as the match entered its closing stages.
Doué and Cherki Turn the Game Around
Doué brought France level with a low strike from outside the penalty area, beginning a dramatic spell that transformed the result.
France then took the lead through a combination between two substitutes. Olise supplied a cutback for Cherki, who finished to put Zidane’s side ahead for the first time.
Having spent much of the match searching for an equaliser, France had suddenly turned a one-goal deficit into a lead. Their attacking momentum continued, with Olise moving from provider to scorer.
Olise Scores Twice to Complete the Comeback
Olise added France’s third before scoring again to complete the 4–1 victory. Doué supplied the pass for each goal, ending the match with a goal and two assists.
Olise’s contribution was equally influential: two goals and an assist after his introduction from the bench.
Olise has now been directly involved in 17 goals across 16 appearances for France in 2026, continuing his productive year at international level.
For Zidane, the late turnaround kept his unbeaten record in charge and kept France at the head of the group.
Italy Move Into Second With Win Over Turkey
Elsewhere in Group A1, Italy beat Turkey 3–1 at home to move into second place.
Gianluca Scamacca opened the scoring for Roberto Mancini’s side before Aral Şimşir equalised for Turkey.
Riccardo Calafiori restored Italy’s advantage with a header, and Pio Esposito added the third to secure the points.
