Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester City 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. Erling Haaland scored twice in the second half, but PSG were the more dominant side.
Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha gave Luis Enrique’s side a three goal lead before Maghnes Akliouche interrupted the hosts’ recovery with PSG’s fourth. With former City manager Pep Guardiola watching from the stands, Enzo Maresca’s team produced a spirited response but paid the price for their difficulty in containing the visitors before half-time.
PSG’s Early Precision Leaves City Chasing
City initially attempted to press PSG, but the visitors demonstrated how effectively they could play through that pressure. Doué scored first in the 13th minute. He then assisted Dembélé to score in the 15th minute, leaving Man City two goals behind. Paris Saint-Germain
The opportunities continued to come for PSG where Achraf Hakimi hit the post shortly after 30 minutes. Then Warren Zaïre-Emery’s back heel created the opening for Vitinha to make it 3–0 in the 32nd minute. Paris Saint-Germain
Maresca’s Changes Revive City
Maresca made three substitutions at half-time, Matheus Nunes, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Iliman Ndiaye. The changes helped City establish a better attacking presence, with Ndiaye particularly influential. After testing Matvey Safonov himself, he delivered the cross that Haaland headed in during the 53rd minute to reduce the deficit. Manchester City FC
That breakthrough gave City a route back into the contest, but Akliouche restored PSG’s three-goal advantage in the 62nd minute. His long-range effort slipped past Gianluigi Donnarumma, halting City’s recovery just as the hosts were beginning to exert considerable pressure
City nevertheless continued to create chances. Enzo Fernández and Haaland struck the woodwork before the Norwegian converted Bouaddi’s low cross in the 75th minute. Safonov subsequently denied Haaland a hat-trick, while Donnarumma prevented further damage at the other end by saving a late penalty from PSG substitute Ferran Torres. Manchester City FC
Haaland Adds Another Champions League Landmark
Haaland reached another significant individual record where his first goal made him the fastest player to score 60 Champions League goals, achieving the mark in 60 appearances. His second took his overall total to 61, including 38 goals in 41 appearances for City in the competition, according to UEFA’s records. UEFA.com
The broader match statistics reflected City’s attacking response without removing the evidence of PSG’s threat. The hosts finished with 27 attempts and 54 per cent possession, but Paris registered 10 shots on target to City’s nine. City generated substantial pressure; PSG’s greater return in front of goal ultimately determined the outcome.
“Second half, we were much better and probably deserved something more,” Maresca told TNT Sports. His side’s recovery offered encouragement, but it also highlighted how much damage had already been done during the opening 45 minutes.
Guardiola Watches Amid City’s Off-Field Proceedings
Guardiola attended the match with figures such as chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and chief executive Ferran Soriano. Guardiola’s presence added another point of interest to City’s Champions League match after the independent commission released findings about City breaking Premier League financial rules. On 29 September the Premier League announced that the commission had found City guilty of serious financial‑rule breaches that covered nine seasons from 2009/10 to 2017/18. The commission also found that City had failed to cooperate with the investigation. City disputes the decision. Filed an appeal, on 1 October. City argues that the decision contains errors of law, principle and fact.
PSG Strengthen Their Start as City Seek a Response
For PSG, the victory followed their opening 6–1 success against Slovan Bratislava, taking them to six points from two league-phase matches. It also marked their first win at City’s stadium, adding historical significance to a result secured through first-half authority and a more demanding defensive effort after the break. Paris Saint-Germain
City now are looking forward to a Premier League home game with Ipswich Town on Saturday, 17 October.
