Kylian Mbappé scored in the 87th minute to complete a double and give Real Madrid a 2–1 victory over Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, 25 October 2026, ending the champions’ nine-match winning start in LaLiga.

Raphinha had cancelled out Mbappé’s opener, but Madrid’s late counterattack settled a contest that Barcelona had increasingly threatened to win. The result leaves Hansi Flick’s side top with 27 points from 10 matches, ahead of Atlético Madrid on 25 and Real on 24.

Madrid Find Openings Against Barcelona’s Press

Madrid’s willingness to play through Barcelona’s pressure gave them a route into the contest. Quick passing and movement beyond the home defence created opportunities, with Arda Güler testing Joan García as José Mourinho’s side established an attacking threat.

The breakthrough arrived in the 41st minute. Yan Diomande delivered the ball into the penalty area, where Gerard Martín’s attempted clearance struck Mbappé and rebounded into the net.

The finish owed much to fortune, but Madrid had constructed the opening through an effective passing move. The hosts nearly responded immediately through Lamine Yamal, who failed to convert from close range. Diomande then fired into the side netting at the other end, leaving Madrid with a narrow advantage at the interval.

Raphinha Restores Parity

Barcelona became more assertive after the restart and equalised in the 61st minute. Following a corner, Pedri picked out Raphinha inside the area, and the Brazilian drove a low, left-footed effort beyond Andriy Lunin.

The goal began Barcelona’s strongest spell. Lunin produced an important save to keep out Martín’s header, while Yamal later sent an effort narrowly wide as the home side searched for a second goal.

Barcelona finished with 62.2 per cent possession and 18 shots to Madrid’s 10. Their advantage in attempts on target was considerably smaller, however, at six to five. Those figures help explain the match’s tension: Barcelona sustained more pressure, but Madrid continued to threaten despite spending longer without the ball.

The visitors’ defensive resistance kept the score level long enough for their ability to attack quickly to become decisive.

Bellingham and Camavinga Create the Winner

With three minutes of normal time remaining, Bellingham’s close control helped Madrid escape pressure and launch the move that decided the match. Güler helped the ball on to Camavinga, who accelerated past Pau Cubarsí before supplying the cutback for Mbappé to finish into an unguarded net.

The sequence captured Madrid’s most effective attacking approach. Bellingham created the opportunity to break forward, Camavinga exploited the space, and Mbappé provided the finish. For all Barcelona’s pressure, the visitors retained the composure and technical quality to turn a passage of possession in their own half into a clear scoring chance.

The goal also marked a personal milestone, with Real Madrid confirming that Mbappe had reached 100 goals for the club in his 116th appearance, adding a major scoring milestone to a valuable league victory.

Mourinho Praises Composure but Questions VAR

Mourinho highlighted his players’ organisation, concentration and willingness to retain possession under pressure. He was particularly satisfied that Madrid had remained composed after Raphinha’s equaliser, having also created opportunities to extend their lead earlier.

His satisfaction was accompanied by criticism of the handling of João Cancelo’s challenge on Diomande before Barcelona scored. Mourinho argued that the defender’s studs-on-calf contact warranted a red card and that VAR should have intervened.

Mourinho nevertheless praised the referee’s overall performance and framed the victory primarily around his team’s response to a demanding opponent.

Mbappé similarly emphasised the collective effort. Speaking to Real Madrid TV, he described the result as a confidence boost while stressing that one Clásico victory would not determine the championship. His message was that Madrid’s individual quality needed to be supported by consistent teamwork throughout the season.

Flick Seeks a Response After Consecutive Defeats

For Barcelona, the result completed a difficult week. The Champions League defeat to flickParis Saint-Germain had already ended an 11‑match winning start across all competitions. Madrid then inflicted the first league loss. Flick acknowledged the difficulties in the first half and said Barcelona players had lacked freshness. Flick took encouragement from Barcelona’s improvement after the equaliser. He Insisted that Barcelona needed to analyse Barcelona shortcomings and respond.

The immediate consequence is a substantially narrower title race. Barcelona retain the lead, but Real Madrid have reduced the gap now from six points to three.
