West Ham’s NFL Combine: Jarrod Bowen Wins the Four-Drill Test

Jack Crawford puts Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals, Tomáš Souček and Alphonse Areola through tests of agility, explosiveness, kicking and passing.

Jarrod Bowen releases the ball and watches it bounce towards the goal line. Too much force will carry it across and end the attempt. Too little will leave an inviting distance for somebody else to beat.

It stops two feet and two inches short.

The controlled finish gives Bowen his second victory in West Ham’s NFL Combine. He has already been quickest around the cones. Precision passing remains, but his route to the overall title is becoming clear.

What Is the West Ham NFL Combine?

Former NFL defensive end Jack Crawford leads Bowen, Fornals, Souček and Areola through four adapted drills: the three-cone drill, broad jump, perfect punt and precision pass.

Betway’s original pre-draft feature confirms the line-up and four events. The challenge borrows the name and some ideas from the NFL Scouting Combine, where invited prospects are assessed before the draft, but it is entertainment rather than a professional evaluation. The punt and target throw are additions tailored to the crossover format, not a complete copy of the official programme.

Crawford explains each station, measures the results and declares a winner.

How Does Bowen Win the Three-Cone Drill?

The opening event tests speed and agility. The players accelerate between three cones, turn sharply and complete the route against the clock.

Straight-line pace is only one part of the task. A wide turn adds distance, while awkward foot placement delays the next acceleration. The best run therefore depends on braking, changing body position and moving again without losing the route.

Bowen records 7.88 seconds, the fastest time of the group. Crawford announces him as the first winner. The fixed sequence makes familiar movements into an unfamiliar route.

Why Does Areola Win the Broad Jump?

The clock disappears for the second station. From a standing start, each player jumps forwards and must land under control. Crawford describes the drill as a test of explosiveness and marks his own combine distance of nine feet eight inches as a reference.

Areola wins with eight feet. Souček is next at seven feet seven inches.

A goalkeeper taking the event is understandable without being inevitable. Areola’s position requires short, forceful movements when diving or attacking a high ball, but the broad jump directs that power forwards from a fixed stance. The landing matters too: distance counts only if the player can hold his balance.

Areola’s result also prevents a clean sweep. One drill belongs to the goalkeeper; the other three will go to Bowen.

What Makes the Perfect Punt Difficult?

The third challenge asks the players to punt towards a marked goal line. The ball must finish as close as possible without crossing it.

Power is obvious when the ball leaves the foot. Weight of delivery is harder to judge. Contact determines the flight, but the bounce and roll settle the measurement. A forceful kick can look impressive and still fail immediately if it travels beyond the line.

Bowen finds the balance. His ball stops two feet two inches away, close enough to win the round. The underlying judgement is familiar from association football: select a target, control the strike and allow for what the surface will do after the first bounce.

Who Wins the Precision-Passing Test?

The final station introduces an American football and five targets. Crawford explains that the first four are worth one point each, while the last carries two.

Fornals scores one point and finishes second. Bowen collects three, taking his third drill and the overall challenge.

Crawford calls him the West Ham player most ready for the NFL. The line is a verdict within the game, not a serious proposal that Bowen should change sports. His advantage is consistency across different demands: quick feet, a carefully weighted punt and enough throwing accuracy to complete the win.

When Did This West Ham Group Take the Challenge?

Betway Arabia uploaded the film on 2 May 2023. BW Arabia later published its regional feature on 13 July, although Betway’s original article had introduced the challenge before the 2023 NFL Draft.

The film now records an earlier West Ham group. Fornals said goodbye to the club in February 2024 and is listed in Real Betis’ current squad. Bowen, Souček and Areola remain on West Ham’s first-team page, with Bowen shown as captain.

This crossover challenge sits alongside Betway’s regular football offering, available through its football section. The listed fixtures and markets depend on event coverage, with access also governed by the customer’s location, account eligibility and local legislation. Customers must meet the minimum legal age for adult participation.

The amount spent across several wagers matters more than the size of any single stake. Decide your total allowance before betting begins, drawing only on leisure money whose loss would leave essential expenses covered. Once that allowance is gone, finish without increasing stakes or adding funds to win it back. If you find yourself reconsidering that limit, pause and consult Betway’s responsible-gambling tools for ways to restrict spending or suspend participation.
