Mikel Arteta has agreed a new contract with Arsenal, with an official announcement expected during the international break, according to Sky Sports. The agreement would keep the Spaniard at the club following their first Premier League title in 22 years.
The 44-year-old’s existing contract, signed in September 2024, runs until summer 2027. Although an agreement has reportedly been reached, Sky Sports says the new deal still needs to be signed before it is formally announced.
Arteta Confident About His Arsenal Future
Arteta had played down concerns about his contract situation before Arsenal’s recent trip to Brighton, indicating that he and the club were working towards the same objectives.
“I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we’ll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about,” he said.
The proposed extension would continue a tenure that began in December 2019. Arteta is now the longest-serving manager in England’s top four divisions, according to Sky Sports.
League Title Marks Arsenal’s Progress
After three consecutive second-place finishes, Arteta guided Arsenal to the Premier League title in the 2025–26 season, ending a 22-year wait to be crowned champions.
Arsenal also reached the Champions League final for only the second time in their history, but missed out on the trophy after losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties. Arteta’s other honours with the club include an FA Cup and three Community Shields.
The agreement would provide continuity as Arsenal look to build on that progress. The challenge ahead is to turn their league breakthrough and European final appearance into sustained success.
